The system requirements for running the Scirus Toolbar are:

When will the Scirus Toolbar be available for other browsers?
Scirus Toolbar is only available for Internet Explorer for the moment. The implementation of the Scirus Toolbar with other browsers will be developed in the future.
Will the Scirus Toolbar be available in other languages?
Scirus is planning to release the toolbar in other languages in the future. Please sign-up for Scirus Updates to be kept up-to-date on the latest available toolbar options.
Can AOL browsers install the Scirus Toolbar?
The Scirus Toolbar can only be installed on Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.0 or greater at this point. |

Why do some users get an ActiveX error message when trying to install the Scirus Toolbar?
Your Internet security settings might be on High. This setting will prevent ActiveX controls from running. To install the Scirus Toolbar, you must have ActiveX controls enabled. To do this, follow these simple steps:

From your browser, select Tools > Internet Options |

Click on the Security Tab |

Click on the Internet icon in the window |

Change security setting to Medium-Low (or if your institution will not allow this, just add www.scirus.com to your trusted sites on the same internet options tab under the Trusted Sites options)

The Scirus Toolbar failed to install, even though the installation window appeared?
It could be that there are temporary internet files still stored in your browser's cache that are preventing the installation to complete. In order to solve this issue, you will need to clear your temporary internet files from your browser. Follow these steps:

From your browser, select Tools > Internet Options |

Click on the General Tab |

Click on the button Delete Files... under the heading Temporary Internet files |

Click OK to delete all files |

Click OK to close the Internet Options window |

Reinstall the Scirus Toolbar. |
The Scirus Toolbar is installed, but it does not appear on the browser.
From your browser, click on "View > Toolbars" and select the name of the toolbar.
Why has the installation of the Scirus Toolbar failed even though I'm using WindowsNT or 2000
If the user is running WindowsNT or Windows 2000, he has to check with his system administrator that he has the administrative privileges required to install applications.
How do users know a new version of the Scirus Toolbar is available?
The Scirus Toolbar has an auto-update system. Users are notified when an update is made to the toolbar's DLL. To ensure a flawless update, a warning is issued if more than one instance of Internet Explorer is opened.
I followed instructions in this FAQ but my installation still fails. What can I do?

Can the user change the Scirus Toolbar preferences?
The Scirus Toolbar options can be modified by the user through a Web page, inside Internet Explorer. It communicates with the DLL.
Is it possible to change the location of the Scirus Toolbar in Internet Explorer?
From your browser, make sure that "Lock the toolbars" on "View > Toolbars" is not checked. Once done, you can move the Scirus Toolbar by grabbing it with the mouse and moving it elsewhere. |
