Scirus adds new innovative and time saving features. The latest Scirus release is an important milestone for it sees the free and most comprehensive science search engine integrate with the OpenURL standard for resolving full text links. Other notable new features in this release include the greater flexibility in the ways in which search results are displayed depending on the source returned; and tighter integration between basic and advanced search.

OpenURL is now integrated into Scirus. OpenURL integration with Scirus is facilitated through the Library Partners Program. The new program utilizes the OpenURL protocol, which standardizes the transfer of journal metadata. This enables search results in Scirus.com to be automatically cross-referenced with the library holdings of the institution at which researchers are working, resulting in the automatic display of links where the full-text is accessible. The Scirus Library Partners program benefits librarians by helping their user communities to find the shortest paths to as many full text links as possible. The users benefit by avoiding dead links and by connecting quickly to the full text articles. They can also see clearly that the access to the full text has been provided by the institution to which they are affiliated to. Scirus Library Partners offers two methods of setting up OpenURL integration. For more information click here .

More Customized Search Results in Scirus. As a mature platform addressing the informational needs of researchers, Scirus now indexes multiple forms of content from journal articles to theses, dissertations, books, courseware and science web pages. Flexible formatting helps make the interface more relevant to the searcher in accordance with the content type being searched by showing field information uniquely tailored to the source type E.g. ISBN number for a book or Patent Number for a patent record.

Intuitive Query Recall is now available in Scirus. This means that when a user inputs a query into the basic search box, these keywords are automatically transferred into the Advanced Search box if the user subsequently decides to conduct an Advanced Search query in the same session. A handy timesaver indeed!
