About Library Partners |
About Library Partners Scirus aims to help provide the shortest way for your users to as many full-text links as possible. Link to Full Text Via a Link Resolver Scirus is OpenURL-compliant and will work with any link resolver currently available in the market. The function of a link resolver is to ensure an institution's entitlements are easily accessed by its users. A link resolver accepts metadata from a source (such as Scirus) and presents links based on the institution's locally-administered logic and business rules. The resolver's links appear in the Scirus results list. Link resolvers and Scirus work together using two methods of linking to the full text:
--- Image-based Linking ---
By means of image-based linking, institutes that subscribe to a link resolver that supports this technology (see list below) are shown links to the entitled full text in the Scirus interface as a "Full Text" image link. Depending on the link resolver configuration, when users click on the "Full Text" image link, they will be taken either directly to the full text or to a resolver-specific entitlements screen from which they must choose the appropriate full text or alternative service.
Library administrators can configure the links via the Submit Library Settings page. These link resolvers currently support image-based linking:
How image-based linking works Scirus checks that the required metadata (ISSN, etc.) are available. A request is sent to the link resolver to check if the institute is entitled to the full text. If entitled, the link resolver will return a "Full Text" image. If not entitled, the link resolver will return a transparent image.
When "Full Text" is clicked, a request is sent to the link resolver to access the article. Whilst this technology is non-proprietary, not all link resolvers are currently able to offer their customers this innovative linking option. Image-based linking eliminates the problem of dead links as a "Full Text" link is only shown when the user is entitled to the full text. If not entitled, a transparent image will be returned by the image-based linking and the branded resolver-specific image link will appear next to that transparent image. The user can click on this link to be taken to a resolver-specific entitlements screen from which they can choose an appropriate service. --- Non-Image-based Linking ---

A branded resolver-specific image or text link can be displayed. These links are always displayed, regardless of entitlements, unless specifically turned off by the user (see search preferences). Link location The location where links appear within the Scirus interface is outlined below.
